Dementia Support Australia (DBMAS & SBRT) NSW
Dementia Support Australia (DSA) is a partnership led by HammondCare that brings together dementia expertise from across the aged care industry. It provides the Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service (DBMAS), Severe Behaviour Response Teams (SBRT) and the Needs Based Assessment Program for determining eligibility for Specialist Dementia Care Programs (SDCP) nationwide. Supported by the Australian Government under the Dementia and Aged Care Services Fund, Dementia Support Australia offers a free national service operating 24/7 365 days a year.
Our role is to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their carers. We do this by working in partnership with the person living with dementia and their care network to understand the causes and/or triggers that led to changes in behaviour. These behaviours can be a reasonable response to the environment, stimuli, and the interaction between people or a more complex interplay of medical issues as a result of their diagnosis. Dementia is experienced differently by each person and our work seeks to recognise and respond individually to these changes.
